Keith Davids (Queensland University of Technology, Australia)

“The athlete-environment relation as a complex system: Implications for sport pedagogy”

Keith Davids is interested in movement coordination and control and the acquisition of skill in performance contexts. A specific focus is the implication of this research for pedagogical practice in sport and physical education. He graduated from the University of London in the UK (1976) and gained a PhD at the University of Leeds (1986). He is currently a Professor of Motor Learning and Control and Head of the School of Human Movement Studies at Queensland University of Technology in February 2006. He was Dean of the School of Physical Education at the University of Otago in New Zealand from 2002-2006.  Prior to that he worked at the Department of Exercise and Sport Science at the Manchester Metropolitan University, UK between 1991-2002. Throughout his research career Keith Davids has published books, book chapters and peer-reviewed research papers in collaboration with academic colleagues in Portugal, Netherlands, Macedonia, UK, NZ, Canada, Germany, Singapore and Australia. He has supervised 20 postgraduate students to completion and is presently supervising postgraduate students in UK, NZ, Portugal and Australia. He is currently co-editor in chief of the International Journal of Sport Psychology, and an editorial board member for Journal of Sports Sciences, Infant Behavior and Development and International Reviews in Sport and Exercise Psychology.
