Themes of ICCSS & EWEP

This joint Conference is intended to combine the recent major contributions of internationally recognised scientists working in different aspects of ecological psychology, and complex systems in sport. The main aim is to serve as a forum for the multidisciplinary exchange of ideas between professionals for the development of theory, pratice and research in sport. Sport scientists are starting the application of tools and concepts of non-linear dynamics, dynamical systems theory, chaos theory, thermodynamics, etc, to the analysis of sport behaviour, and this congress aims to encourage this attempt.

The European Workshop on Ecological Psychology (EWEP) is a conference, at which theoretical and empirical work on goal-directed behaviour is presented from the perspective of Ecological Psychology. The conference covers a broad range of topics, from basic research into visual, auditory, and haptic perception, control and coordinatination of action, affordances, perceptual systems, perceptual learning, and the neurological basis of perception and action to more applied issues regarding human factors, robotics, rehabilitation and sports.

The themes, although crossed connections are recommended, are:

  • ORGANISMIC SYSTEMS: metabolic system, energetic system, nervous system, neuro-muscular control, neural network models of brain, psychological control.

  • HUMAN MOVEMENT SYSTEMS: Biomechanical control of degrees of freedom, perceptual guidance of action, motor control, training, learning and development, decisional systems.

  • HUMAN SOCIAL SYSTEMS: collective behaviour, match analysis, social structures and dynamics, major competitions (world championships, Olympic Games), markets, sport development.

  • ENGINEERED SYSTEMS: Product design and manufacturing, modified and hybrid biological organisms, computer based interactive systems, hardware and software tools for diagnostic, robots competition.
